Jim Johnson plays Berry Jackson, a young African-American art student in New York City. His family throws Berry out into the streets after he is found sexually with another man. Berry must start his life from scratch and find community and some form of stability.
Berry meets Bruce Jamison at a poetry reading in Harlem. Bruce tells young Berry about growing up in Harlem during its Renaissance and tells Berry about the burst of creativity within the community. By meeting Bruce, Berry begins to find the community and history he needs in this touching journey. |
